Empowering the Next Generation: Digital Inclusion for African Folktale Preservation
Monthly meeting: 27th January 2023
On January 27th, the AfricanTales community came together for a virtual meeting to discuss the progress of the initiative and new developments. Led by Chairperson and Founder, Mrs. Bwalya Mwali, the meeting highlighted the use of technology to enhance communication and preserve cultural heritage.
The meeting was introduced by the Chairperson and Founder, Mrs. Bwalya Mwali. One of the key takeaways from the meeting was the use of Google Meet captions, which allowed for better communication among participants from different regions and cultures.
Mr. Francois Mark presented the work-in-progress AfricanTales website, highlighting features such as the event calendar and time zone for the community across the African regions and beyond. The community was also invited to submit traditional African folk stories for the upcoming schools competition.
Additionally, the community was informed of a new project, “DIGITAL INCLUDE- Bridging The Digital Inequality, One Laptop At A Time” in collaboration with Interactive Graphics Studios (IGFX), a Mauritian technology company and Google Partner. The initiative aims to collect, refurbish, and redistribute old laptops to those who need them most, in partnership with small and medium enterprises that use eco-friendly materials to create laptop bags and accessories, supporting the local economy and the circular economy.
Overall, the meeting was a great opportunity for the AfricanTales community to come together and discuss the progress of the initiative and new developments. With the use of technologies, the community is ready to accelerate the initiative and promote the preservation of African cultural heritage.
